Russian fighter jet shot down by Ukraine, Moscow claims further advance in Donetsk

Kyiv: Ukrainian forces said on Saturday they had shot down a Russian fighter jet, while Moscow claimed it had made territorial gains in eastern Ukraine.

The bomber was shot down near Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, according to Serhiy Horbunov, head of the Kostiantynivka Military Administration. Photos revealed the charred remains of the plane after it crashed into a house, causing a fire.

In the same partially occupied province of Donetsk, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed control of the village of Zhelanne Druhe. If confirmed, this would follow the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the frontline town of Vuhledar just three days earlier, where they had mounted a tough defense for two years.

On Saturday, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that its air defenses shot down 10 Ukrainian drones overnight in three border regions, including seven in Belgorod, two in Kursk and one in Voronezh.
