Kullu Dussehra Festival: Artists from 21 countries to showcase culture and art in Himachal Pradesh

Artists from 21 countries will participate in this year’s International Dussehra Festival in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur said on October 6 in New Delhi. After chairing a meeting of ambassadors to discuss participation of various countries in this year’s festival in New Delhi, Thakur said ambassadors, excellencies and heads of mission of various nations will meet Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on October 18 in Kullu to hold bilateral talks on various points of interest.

Representatives of these countries will set up stalls during the festival, while cultural groups will perform during an international folk dance festival to promote cultural exchange and foster harmony, goodwill and understanding, according to a statement issued here on Friday.

Thakur also briefed diplomats and representatives of various embassies about the preparation of the event, including the logistics and travel support that will be provided to the visitors for their participation in the Dussehra festival.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that virtual pujas and live darshanas have emerged as new-age practices that allow devotees across the world to maintain a connection with these ancient shrines.

He said the state government was leveraging modern technology to strengthen the bond between devotees and Shaktipeeths situated in Himachal Pradesh. “With the emergence of Navrataras, these online tools can be a boon for devotees who cannot visit these temples in person,” he said.

The Chief Minister, in a statement issued here, said that the Shaktipeeths in Himachal Pradesh attract millions of devotees across the world and the online Darshans were an alternative for those who could not visit the temples in person for one reason or the other. .

He said online platforms have been developed with an aim to offer services like virtual puja (online religious offerings), purchasing religious material including prasad besides making donations for Mata Shree Jwalamukhi temple, Vajreshwari temple and Chamunda Devi temple in Kangra district.

He said that through online platforms, devotees can book special offerings, request rituals to be performed on their behalf and even receive ‘prasad’ through the mail.

Directives have been issued to uphold the sanctity of religious practices while conducting virtual ceremonies and to ensure that traditions are not compromised, he added.

Sukhu said many temples in the state, including Shri Mata Chintpurni in Una district, Baba Balak Nath Deothsidh temple in Hamirpur district and Jakhu temple in Shimla district, are now offering online darshans.
