Berhampur University takes action against 17 PG students for disturbing youth
17 graduate students have faced disciplinary action in Berhampur University derision incident. Officials have said that the University has taken action against students for allegedly harassing its third-year students. Of the total, four students were ordered to vacate their hostel rooms and 13 students were fined Rs 1,000 each. Vice Chancellor Geetanjali Dash told PTI that action was taken after the anti-ragging committee conducted an investigation into the incident that occurred on September 21.
While complaining to the University Grants Commission, UGCfirst-year graduate students shared incidents in which seniors criticized them. The youth told UGC that the elders came to their hostel room around 11 pm that day and continued to ask them various details by way of introduction and did not let them sleep. However, they did not name the seniors in the complaint.
UGC forwarded the complaint to the University and the University took action against the students. “The UGC had asked the varsity to investigate the matter and provide a report of the action taken. We have already informed the UGC of the action taken,” the VC said.
“We have also sensitized students about the consequences of irregular behavior and warned them against engaging in such activities on campus,” the VC added. He anti-ragging The committee is investigating the matter and other freshmen are also being investigated.
