Review: For hearty, traditional delights, head to Flurys Tea Room in Mumbai

When in Mumbai, there is nothing like the experience of dining overlooking the coast. Whether you do it from a rooftop bar or a local seaside spot, there’s something undeniably beautiful about watching the waves and the horizon while enjoying a delicious treat. Recently, Mumbai has another place for seaside food lovers and this comes with a proud legacy befitting another proud Indian city. Kolkata’s Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels’ iconic bakery and confectionery brand Flurys has launched its first tea room in Mumbai. Located near the Gateway of India, this 100-seat establishment manages to be a cafe, bakery, restaurant, bar and much more. Flurys Tea Room in Mumbai has indoor and outdoor seating. It has a cozy atmosphere and a sense of heritage charm that suits its location on PJ Ramchandani Marg. The menu features your all-time favorite signature breakfasts, including the legendary Flurys Full English Breakfast, Egg Benedict, Famous Flurys Sandwiches, Rum Balls, Heritage Coupes and Sundaes, Strawberry Chocolate Cube Cakes, Classic and Flurys specialty cocktails, and Heritage coffees and coffees. further.

We started our feast with the House Cobb Salad, which had fresh, hearty portions of each ingredient. Among the appetizers, we tried the semolina-crusted chicken, which was crispy and filling. As you would expect, Flurys has a wide range of bread-based delights. Instead of a sandwich or a flatbread (both have several options), we decided to order one of the “Things on Toast.” While Flury’s Beans on Toast has been an iconic staple since the ’70s, the menu here includes other ingredients as well. We chose the creamy garlic mushrooms, which turned out unexpectedly delicious (see photo). The huge slice of toast was completely engulfed in the delicious, messy topping. It gave the dish a homemade feel that we liked.

The main courses impressed us even more. We opted for the simplest pasta: whole wheat spaghetti with Traditional Napoli Sauce (vegetarian). He radiated comfort like a warm hug. The flavor of the basil, the spiciness of the tomato base, and the flavor of the pasta were wonderfully balanced. The other main dish was also one we would return for: the grilled rosemary marinated chicken. Served on a thick bed of buttery mashed potatoes, surrounded by a tasty jus, the succulent pieces were a pure delight.

Flurys has a wide range of drinks beyond its traditional hot tea selection. They have also introduced some cocktails with interesting combinations. We enjoyed Pin: 00001, a stimulating gin-based concoction with passion fruit, basil, honey and lemon. Among the non-alcoholic cocktails, we recommend the delicious sweet and sour notes of Farmers Farm (pitahaya, orange pulp, lychee and orange juice) and the refreshing ones of the Caribbean Sea (coconut water, pineapple pieces, ginger and basil). Among the hot drinks, we loved the Hazelnut Mocha, which seemed to be the perfect drink to combat the monsoon blues.

For dessert, we tasted two Flurys classics: the Rum Ball and the Strawberry Cube. While the latter was too sweet for our taste, the former was simply delicious! There are also many other sweets to choose from.
