Zepto faces backlash for insensitive notification, says: ‘This bug will not happen again’

Fast commerce giant led by Aadit Palicha Zepto has faced criticism after sending an inappropriate and unsolicited marketing notification to a customer.

The notification, sent to a user named Pallavi Pareek, read: “Miss you Pallavi, says emergency contraceptive pill I-pill.”

Pallavi expressed her anger in a LinkedIn post and stated, “I never asked him for an emergency pill. Even if I did, you should understand that this is not something I should miss.” He also asked, “Do you want me to need emergency contraception?”

Pallavi is the founder and CEO of UNGENDER, a company that has empowered over a thousand workplaces and their leaders to navigate complex compliance landscapes and foster inclusive environments, as mentioned in their LinkedIn profile.

In her post, she said, “Messages are appropriate only if they are sensitive, funny or logical. I draw the line when notifications get flirty or sleazy. But this is a bit much.”

Notably, Pallavi clarified that she had no intention of criticizing Zepto or its products. “I love Zepto as an app. They are a great backbone of my life considering I rely heavily on such apps for ordering. This post is to highlight the flaw in logic and mindless copy and not against the promotion or availability of ipill,” he added. .

Zepto’s response

When his post gained widespread attention, Zepto responded with an apology, acknowledging the “reckless and potentially harmful” nature of the message.

The company also assured users that immediate action had been taken, including updates to its processes and retraining of its team.

“We value your trust and well-being above all else. This mistake will not happen again,” he added.
