Apple to launch cheaper Vision Headset next year, Mark Gurman suggests – here’s what it could cost

Cupertino-based Apple is set to launch a more affordable version of its Apple Vision headphones next year, according to the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter.

According to a report from 9To5Mac, the upcoming headphones are expected to be priced around $2,000, significantly lower than the premium one. Apple Vision Pro, which debuted earlier this year at $3,499.

Apple’s decision to accelerate the development of cheaper headphones is reportedly due to the high price of the Vision Pro, which has limited its appeal and accessibility to a wider audience. Reports from earlier this year suggested that Apple had paused development of the Vision Pro to focus on this lower-cost variant, which remains the company’s priority.

According to the publication, the more affordable headphones It is likely to include downgraded components, including a less powerful processor and cheaper materials. While the Vision Pro is equipped with the M2 chip, it is anticipated that the lower-end model could use an A-series processor, such as the A18 Pro, which is comparable in speed to the M1 chip. In terms of construction, the new headphones are expected to incorporate more plastic, replacing the premium aluminum and glass design of its high-end counterpart.

One notable omission on cheaper headphones will likely be the view functionwhich was introduced in the Vision Pro. This feature, which displays the user’s eyes on the outside of the headset through lenticular screens, will be removed in the process of cost reduction. While EyeSight added a unique interactive element, allowing those nearby to see the user’s eyes, it was costly to implement due to the additional external display.

Despite these changes, Apple The cheaper headphones are expected to sell for twice as much as the Vision Pro, although this is not a particularly high bar given the limited range of the premium model. Looking ahead, the Apple Vision Pro 2 is reported to be launched in 2026 and is expected to feature a faster processor, the report added.
