Andrew and Sassie Duggleby were tired and frustrated by the length of the flights from Japan to the United States. In 2020, they founded Aerospace Venusa Texas company that now aims to create flights that fly faster than the speed of sound. Six times faster, to be precise.
The company, which is working to make hypersonic travel a reality, is reportedly building an engine that could allow a hypersonic plane to fly from New York to London at speeds of up to 3,600 mph in just one hour. This engine, called the Venus Detonation Ramjet 2,000lb Thrust Engine, also known as VDR2, will reduce travel time between these two iconic cities by seven hours.
The venture is being run in collaboration with aerospace company Velontra and a test flight is planned for next year. According to experts, this hypersonic aircraft will fly higher than traditional aircraft, using conventional jet engines for takeoff before switching to rocket propulsion at altitude. Even if they don’t reach the edge of space, passengers will enjoy a breathtaking spectacle of Earth against black space.
The applications of this would be enormous. The same technology could be used to power drones and other high-speed vehicles, revolutionizing the way we travel. However, realistically, the hyperjet could be operational in the 2030s, according to the couple. According to Express UK, the company claims that “its Stargazer M400 will be Earth’s first hypersonic, reusable aircraft, capable of traveling 5,000 miles and producing half the CO2 emissions of a normal flight.”
