World Students Day: History
World Students’ Day is celebrated every year on October 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalamwho was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He is fondly known as “India’s Missile Man” for his role in advancing India’s space and missile programs.
Dr Kalam He worked extensively with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), making immense contributions to India’s scientific and technological advancements.
Despite his professional achievements, he is remembered for his deep connection with young people. Dr. Kalam believed that students were the key to India’s development and future success, and he spent much of his life mentoring and inspiring them.
After his tenure as President, Dr. Kalam continued his passion for teaching as a visiting professor at several prestigious institutions including the Indian Institute of Management Shillong and Anna University in Tamil Nadu. He also served as chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram. He died on July 27, 2015, while giving a lecture to students at IIM Shillong.
