tata group: 5 lakh jobs in 5 years: Tata Group sets a major target

New Delhi: Tata Group plans to generate 500,000 jobs in the manufacturing sector in the next five years, news agency PTI reported on October 15 citing the group’s president N Chandrasekaran. The jobs will be in various sectors including semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries and related industries, PTI quoted Chandrasekaran as saying.

Chandrasekaran made the announcement at a symposium of the Indian Foundation for Quality Management. He stressed that job creation in the manufacturing sector is vital to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation. “We cannot achieve the goals of Viksit Bharat if we cannot create jobs in the manufacturing sector,” he said, highlighting the growing number of people entering the workforce.

The targeted hiring spree will be driven by Tata Group’s investments in various fields. “Between our investments in semiconductors, precision manufacturing, assembly, electric vehicles, batteries and related industries, I believe we will create five lakh jobs in the manufacturing sector in the next five years,” Chandrasekaran said.

The group is setting up new plants, including a semiconductor plant in Assam and other units for electric vehicles and batteries. Chandrasekaran noted that these jobs would have a significant multiplier effect, resulting in the creation of numerous small and medium enterprises within the ecosystem.

Chandrasekaran highlighted the need for government support in these initiatives. He also mentioned that modern manufacturing, such as semiconductor manufacturing, tends to create multiple indirect jobs for every direct job generated.

According to him, to meet the employment needs of the growing workforce, India needs to create 100 million jobs.
