Lawrence Bishnoi News: Mumbai Police is facing huge difficulties in taking custody of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Due to the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bishnoi cannot be detained by any state agency or police from August 30, 2023 to August 30, 2024 as per CrPC 268.
This order was issued fearing deterioration of law and order, stating that there could be danger if Bishnoi is released from jail. Mumbai Police unable to locate Lawrence Bishnoi

What is the reason for the stay in custody?
The main reason for Mumbai Police not getting custody of Lawrence Bishnoi is the Union Home Ministry’s order prohibiting his removal from Sabarmati Jail. The order under section 268 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) allows the government to restrict the movement of high-profile prisoners so that law and order is not affected. This order was previously in effect until August 2024, but has now been extended for one year.
