The Amazon Great Indian Festival, which began on September 27 this year, saw record sales for the fashion and beauty sector, with 65% of buyers coming from Tier 2 cities and beyond, according to Zeba Khan, Director of Fashion and Beauty on Amazon India, PTI reported.
During the first 48 hours of the sale, the e-commerce giant noted that 11 million customers visited its platform, with 80% coming from tier 2 cities and smaller towns, it added.
“We have witnessed a strong response in specific categories and sectors. Overall, there has been a seven-fold increase in the fashion and beauty segment, with a notable ten-fold increase in travel luggage sales, indicating that people is planning trips this season,” he noted.
“In Ahmedabad, sales of precious jewelery have grown 2.3-fold and there has been significant demand for luxury beauty products, particularly fragrances and salon-quality items,” he continued.
The data also indicates a resurgence in demand for handloom and handicraft items such as Bandhani, Patola, Kutch embroidery, Zardozi and mirror work, Khan highlighted. According to the official, contemporary styles that fuse traditional and modern aesthetics, such as crop tops paired with ethnic pants or draped sarees, are also becoming increasingly popular.
Traditional silver jewelery of Gujarat, characterized by intricate designs, has become one of the major purchases during this festive season, he added.
