While on one hand, the UP police have so far killed 210 criminals in direct combat, on the other hand, there are a large number of criminals who have been left helpless due to the effective defense of the police in court.
The Prosecution Directorate of UP Police plays an important role in this regard. While in previous governments the Directorate of Public Prosecutions remained on the sidelines, the Yogi government has given it special priority. The result of this is that thanks to the effective defense of the Prosecutor’s Office in various courts in the state, more than 80 thousand criminals have been punished for their crimes in the last seven and a half years.
In the last seven and a half years more than 81,196 criminals were punished
Director General of Public Prosecutions Deepesh Juneja said that in the last seven and a half years, more than 81,196 criminals have been punished through effective defense in court. Of them, of 29,196 criminals, 54 have been sentenced to death, 3,125 criminals have been sentenced to life imprisonment, 9,076 criminals have been sentenced to prison terms of more than 10 years and 16,941 criminals have been sentenced to imprisonment of less than 10 years. . Furthermore, in the last 16 months, within the framework of Operation Convention, the police and prosecutor’s office have punished more than 52,000 criminals.
In crimes related to women, till August 24, 28,700 offenders have been punished in cases of sexual crimes, rape, serious crimes against women, POCSO Act and other crimes. Of them, only 16,565 offenders have been punished for sexual crimes, rapes and serious crimes, including other crimes against women. In these cases, 9 criminals have been given the death penalty, 1,720 have been given life imprisonment, 4,443 have been given a prison sentence of more than 10 years and 10,393 have been given a prison sentence of less. of 10 years.
12,135 criminals under the POCSO Act and 496 criminals from the state’s heinous/top 10 categories were punished.
ADG Deepesh Juneja said that till August 24, 12,135 criminals have been punished for offenses under the POCSO Act. Of them, 44 criminals have been sentenced to death, 1,354 to life imprisonment, 4,599 to prison sentences of more than 10 years and 6,138 to prison sentences of less than 10 years. Likewise, until August 24, 496 criminals belonging to the 10 most heinous and superior categories of the state were punished.
Of them, one offender has been sentenced to death, 51 to life imprisonment, 34 to more than 10 years in prison and 410 to less than 10 years in prison. At the same time, from March 25, 2022 to August 31-24, 29 criminals have been punished in a total of 42 cases against 69 identified mafia criminals and their gangs in the state. Of them, the death penalty was imposed in one case, life imprisonment in five cases, imprisonment of more than 10 years in 7 cases and imprisonment of less than 10 years in 29 cases.
