Star Air flight receives bomb threat in Lucknow; 6 flights on alert land as planned in Mumbai

A Star Air flight from Lucknow to Kishangarh in Rajasthan received a bomb threat on Saturday afternoon (October 19), prompting increased security measures at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSI). According to a statement from the CCSI Airport spokesperson, the threat was received at 1:52 p.m. The Airport Bomb Threat Assessment Committee met immediately to assess the situation and implement the necessary safety protocols.

“The aircraft, flight S5 223, was moved to an isolation bay and the passengers were safely deplaned. CISF personnel carried out a thorough security check of the aircraft,” the statement said. “After security clearance was obtained at 4:10 pm, passengers were allowed to proceed to the terminal. The terminal team facilitated a smooth flow of passengers to ensure minimal disruption,” the statement added.

The incident is in line with the avalanche of threats of this type received throughout the country. More than 30 flights from various Indian airlines.including Vistara, Air India and IndiGo, among others, received bomb threats on Saturday.

So far this week, at least 70 Indian airline flights have received bomb threats. Six flights against which bomb threats were made through social media landed on schedule at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Saturday, a police official said.

These threats came from a single X account and were categorized as “hoax” and “non-targeted” after extensive checks, the official added. The account, from a user named ‘Adha’, mentioned flights from several airlines, although only six were scheduled to land at the Mumbai international airport, the official said.

They were from Delhi, Goa, Darbhanga, etc., the police officer informed. According to sources, more than 30 flights operated by various Indian airlines received bomb threats since Saturday morning.

They said flights of Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara, SpiceJet, Star Air and Alliance Air have received threats. On at least one of the flights, a note was found in the bathroom saying that there was a bomb on board. The Civil Aviation Ministry plans to implement strict rules to prevent incidents of hoax bomb threats to airlines, including putting perpetrators on the no-fly list.

The Mumbai Police lodged multiple FIRs over the threats and arrested a minor from Chhattisgarh in connection with one of the social media posts.
