How to Book Train Tickets on IRCTC App in 2024

With the festival season around the corner, many travelers are gearing up to book their train tickets in advance through the IRCTC app. If you’re excited about your upcoming trips but unsure about the booking process, you’re in the right place! We’ll guide you through everything you need to know for a smooth and hassle-free travel experience. Here is the step by step process.

Process:

First, download the IRCTC app, which is available on both Apple Store and Play Store. If this is your first time, please register; If you have already done so, log in with the code you set up during registration. After completing the captcha, tap login and you will come to the following interface.

In this interface, select the train option. In the upper left corner, you will see the “Book Ticket” option. After that, you will reach the train selection page. First, choose your departure location and then your destination. Next, select the class and fee.

Then, select your departure date; I chose October 21st. Five categories will be displayed on the next page. If applicable, you can select options such as ‘Sleeper Train Available’ if you require a sleeper seat. Then click ‘Find Trains’ to see the available options.

You can explore all the options and then choose the train that fits your criteria. I selected the third AC here and after refreshing you will see the available seats. In my case I see a waiting list, but you can also check available places.

Next, select from your chosen time slots and a confirmation pop-up will appear. Tap “Confirm” and then “OK.”

Now, the following interface will show all your ticket details. As this is not the first time, you can select existing passenger details or add new passenger details. You can add more than one passenger by selecting “Add New”.

An important note: if you travel with a baby, you can also add their information. You can also select mooring preferences.

There is an option for the passenger’s mobile number where you can enter data. Another option is “Consider automatic upgrade” in case you want to request an upgrade if a seat becomes available. There is also an option for ‘Travel Insurance Opted’; I selected ‘No’.

After that, you will see the payment method. Complete the captcha and the amount will be displayed. Tap “Continue Payment.” If your ticket is on the waiting list, you will see a long message on the screen; Tap “Yes” to continue. You will be directed to several options; I chose ‘Auto Pay’.

Then, tap “Continue to Payment.” You will see three options; I selected the UPI (OTM) option. After payment is made, your ticket is reserved!

Your ticket will be registered and then the ‘Terms and Conditions’ will appear. If you want to see details between trains, tap “OK”. After confirming your choice, tap “Yes.”

If you want to check the details of the ticket, access the ‘My Reservations’ option in the app. Tap your ticket, go to the top right corner and you will find the “Cancel Ticket” option if you need to cancel. If your waitlisted ticket is confirmed, you will receive a notification.
