Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Sunday said he would not allow any dilution in standards of teaching and teaching staff in all new AIIMS set up across the country as he promised to protect the brand of the institute.
Addressing BJMFCON 2024, a forum of doctors from Bihar and Jharkhand practicing in Delhi-NCR, Nadda said AIIMS-Delhi was created in the 1960s, but it was not until the 1980s that it became a brand.
“It takes 10-20 years for any institution to grow and function at full capacity. I will not allow dilution of AIIMS standards and will protect its brand,” Nadda said, adding that no compromise will be made in the college. recruitment.
The health minister also said that the inauguration ceremony of AIIMS-Darbhanga will be held soon, while the commissioning of AIIMS-Deoghar has been done and recruitment of staff is currently underway.
Nadda stated that several policy interventions have been made to transform medical education in the last 10 years: “In the health policy of 2017, we tried to make it comprehensive and holistic. Earlier, the emphasis was on the curative aspect, but now the focus is focuses on preventive, promotional, curative, palliative and rehabilitative aspects: a holistic approach”.

Underlining the government’s efforts in preventive aspects of healthcare and early detection of diseases in the country, he said there are 1.73 lakh high-quality Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in India undergoing high-quality digital screening .
Of these, 10,716 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been established in Bihar, which have so far recorded an influx of 8.35 crore, while 4.36 crore have been screened for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). .
There are 3,825 similar facilities in Jharkhand which witnessed an influx of 2.33 crore and 2.12 crore NCD screening.

The goal of these services is the early detection of NCDs.
Highlighting the progress made in maternal and child health, Nadda said “institutional deliveries increased from 78.9 per cent to 88.6 per cent in the first five years of the Modi government.”
Nadda also mentioned the implementation of the world’s largest Covid-19 vaccination program, with more than 220 million doses administered in the country.
The Health Minister also praised healthcare providers “for their tireless efforts to ensure accessibility of healthcare services even in the most remote areas of the country”, highlighting their efforts and services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
From 387 before 2014 to 766 now, a 98 per cent increase in the number of medical colleges has been ensured under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said.
A total of 157 district hospitals have been converted into medical colleges, of which eight are in Bihar, including Purnia, Saran, Samastipur and Jhajharpur, Siwan, Buxar and Jamui, while five are in Jharkhand, at Dumka, Hazaribagh, Palamu, Chaibasa and Kodarma, Nadda said.
He also emphasized that “Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is being redeveloped into the second largest hospital in Asia.”
The number of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats has increased by 125 per cent, from 51,348 before 2014 to 1,15,412 now, he said.
Noting that there has been a 134 per cent increase in postgraduate (PG) seats, from 31,185 before 2014 to 73,111 now, Nadda added that “under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), the largest world health insurance scheme, treatment value $So far Rs 86,797 crore has been sanctioned.”
As part of its commitment to healthcare for senior citizens, the government has extended the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY to all people aged 70 years and above, with healthcare benefits amounting to up to $5 lakh, Nadda said.
The health minister also claimed that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan helped reduce child mortality, while the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme reduced people’s out-of-pocket expenses.
