Supreme Court stops Karnataka from declaring results of semester exams for classes 8 to 10

On October 21, the Supreme Court restrained the state of Karnataka from announcing the results of the semester exams for classes 8, 9 and 10 until further notice.

As per the interim order, the high court said that if semester examinations were not conducted for classes 8, 9 and 10 in any district, then they will not be conducted. The court asked the state government to file an affidavit with the exact details of the exam within four weeks.

“Why are you harassing students? You are the State. You should not behave like this. Don’t make it a matter of ego. If you are really concerned about the welfare of students, then please open good schools. Don’t strangle to the students.” them,” the court told senior advocate Devadatt Kamat, who represented the Karnataka government, according to news agency PTI.

The order by the bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma came in response to an appeal filed by the Organization for Unaided Recognized Schools against the March 22 judgment of the Karnataka High Court.

The high court had allowed the state to conduct board exams for different classes for the academic year 2023-24, setting aside the March 6 order of a single bench of judges, which had set aside the state government’s October 2023 to conduct the board exams for different classes through the Karnataka State Examination and Examination Board (KSEAB).

The Supreme Court, in the last hearing, said that no other state follows this model of education that the Karnataka government is following.

Meanwhile, the state government informed the court that a circular for conducting examinations for students of classes 5, 8, 9 and 10 in the current academic year in seven rural districts of the state had been withdrawn.

The high court was informed that examinations were also conducted in 24 other districts, PTI reported.
