Tbilisi: Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said Sunday that the country was the victim of a Russian “special operation” as she stood alongside Georgia’s opposition to say she did not recognize the results of the vote.
He called on Georgians to come out at 7pm on Monday on the capital’s main street to protest the result, which he said was a “total falsification, a total theft of their votes”. He spoke the day after an election that could decide Georgia’s place in Europe.
The Central Election Commission said Sunday that the ruling Georgian Dream party won nearly 55% of the vote with nearly 100% of votes counted.
European election observers said the election took place in a “divisive” atmosphere marked by intimidation and cases of physical violence that undermined the outcome of the vote.
