Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid surrendered before authorities at Tihar Jail on Monday after finalizing his interim bail, jail officials said.
Awami Party leader Ittehad, who has been arrested in a terror financing case, reached jail at noon after a Delhi court, which was scheduled to pass the order on his bail plea, adjourned the affair.
On September 10, Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh granted interim bail to Rashid, alias Engineer Rashid, to allow him to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, while deferring the order on his plea. of freedom on usual bail.
Rashid’s interim bail had earlier been extended until October 28 due to his father’s poor health. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) did not object to the statement after verifying the documents.
He has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2019 after the NIA arrested him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the 2017 terror financing case.
Elections to the 90-member JK Assembly were held in three phases between September 18 and October 1. The results were announced on October 8, with the National Conference-Congress alliance winning a majority with 48 seats.
