A cub hit by a train in Sundergarh, an elephant dies of electrocution in Redhakhol

At the same time, a 15-year-old elephant was electrocuted at Redhakhol in Sambalpur district. Forest Department teams are busy investigating the matter. After receiving the information, the Forest Department team reached the spot but could not take possession of the carcass due to the presence of elephants. According to the forest department, the accident occurred near the Sunuburu railway section of the Chordhara section of the Barsuan forest range. It is to be noted that there is a situation of human-elephant conflict in Sundargarh district. In more than half a dozen blocks there is regular movement of elephants. Due to this, many times the elephants target houses and crops. Many times villagers are losing their lives.

Second elephant dies in Redhakhol in two months

A 15-year-old elephant was electrocuted after coming in contact with a wire in Chatapada forest of Nakatideul village of Redhakhol in Sambalpur district. The local people informed the forest department about this. The forest workers reached the spot and found another elephant sitting near the dead elephant. This is the second incident in the last two months where an elephant has died due to electrocution. DFO Arvind Mohanty said that after the arrival of the scientific team, the post-mortem of the elephant will be conducted and then it will be buried.

Incidents are continually occurring in Banai subdivision

Elephants are continuously coming to Banai subdivision. Two days ago, a tusker elephant that broke away from the group had created a ruckus on Friday night at Talita village of Dharnidhar section of Banai Forest Range. The elephant had destroyed the houses of Bhagwan Kisan, Baisakhu Kisan and Punia Kisan Nidhi Kisan of the village. The villagers somehow saved their lives by running away. Similarly, they entered into five acres of land of Ramchandra Sahu of the same village and destroyed the paddy crop. On receiving the information, the forest department team arrived and tried to chase away the elephant with the help of the villagers.

A pregnant woman and an innocent eight-year-old child were also killed in the Barsuan area.

Death

On the night of August 13, an elephant went on a rampage in Balijodi village in the Barsuan mountain range. They broke into a woman’s house late at night in Balijodi village. During this time, the woman and her eight-year-old son were killed when the wall collapsed. Three girls were also seriously injured in the accident. The three seriously injured girls are undergoing treatment at the Rourkela government hospital. The deceased were identified as Sukanti Bhatta and her eight-year-old son Sukhnath Bhatta.
