Ahmedabad: a master in gujarat made a mistake while adding up the scores while reviewing the board exam math paper. The teacher made a 30-point error, causing the student to fail math. He Gujarat State Board of Education (GSEB) discovered the mistake when the student submitted a new assessment, The Times of India reported. The math teacher had made a mistake in the sum.

The board has reportedly fined 4,488 teachers for making addition errors while checking the answer sheets of board exams of classes 10 and 12. According to GSEB officials, a fine of Rs 64 lakh will be imposed on teachers who make mistakes. Nearly 100 teachers who had made total errors of 10 or more points were math teachers, it reported TOI citing board officials.

Bharat Patel, president of the Gujarat Higher Secondary Teachers’ Association, told the media that the mathematics teacher who made a 30-point error forgot to drag a digit while adding up the points.

According to Patel, 1,654 Class 10 paper inspectors were fined Rs 20 lakh collectively for errors, TOI reported. In particular, teachers were fined R100 for the error in each grade. A total of 1,404 paper tokens for class 12 general stream were fined Rs 24.31 lakh, while 1,430 paper tokens for class 12 science stream were collectively fined.

Kiritsinh Mahida, president of the Gujarat Secondary Teachers’ Association, told TOI that the common mistake made by teachers was not carrying over the numbers after adding up the marks. Teachers even forget to round half grades.

According to reports, more than 40,000 teachers participated in the revision of the class 10 board exams.
