A school teacher in Gomati district of Tripura was beaten to death after being attacked by a mob for allegedly… abusing an underage girl student, state police said Sunday.
Despite a complaint being filed, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Following this, local residents brutally beat the public school teacher on Thursday.
“Following a serious assault, the neighbours took him to the RK Pur police station on the night of August 8 in the presence of his wife and lodged a case of sexual assault against him. On the advice of the doctor, the accused was put up for the night at a local health centre,” Additional Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Ananta Das was quoted as saying by PTI.
He was arrested and later released on bail by a local court on Friday.
Das said the teacher fell ill after returning home and was admitted to GBP Hospital in Agartala. He died during treatment on Saturday.
Police have launched an investigation into the case, the officer said.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, a local lawmaker, condemned the attack on the “reputed English teacher.”
“There can be accusations against anyone, but taking the law into one’s own hands is a crime. Chief Minister Manik Saha “Police have taken notice of the brutal murder of the teacher and will take legal action against those involved in the crime,” he told PTI.
Separately, the Tripura Police On Sunday, the government said it would not allow agitations or demonstrations in West Tripura district, including Agartala, to maintain law and order in view of the volatile situation in Bangladesh.
“The situation in Bangladesh is volatile. Vigilance has been intensified at the international border. Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have been carrying out joint patrols with BSF troops along the border to thwart any intrusion attempts from across the border,” said West Tripura Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar.
