A no-confidence motion is likely to be moved against Mayor Tania Mishra of Sundargarh Municipality. 11 BJD councillors did not attend the monthly meeting held at the conference hall of Sundargarh Municipality. Meanwhile, all of them are said to have met in a secret meeting and taken some important decisions. These councillors accused the mayor of working in an arbitrary manner, ignoring the opinion of the councillors while approving development works or any proposals and the condition of roads, streets and side lights in the municipal wards had deteriorated during his two-and-a-half-year tenure. Also, the councillors did not attend the meeting against the project to legalise the management of 39 multipurpose shophouses illegally constructed on vacant land at Rangadhipa Chowk and take responsibility for regular collection of rents. Mayor Tania Mishra, Deputy Mayor Lalatendu Parida, seven BJP councillors, MP Batkishore Mishra and MLA Dr Himanshu Shekhar Shadangi were present at the meeting. But the non-attendance of 11 out of 19 councillors in this meeting has become a matter of concern for the mayor. Even though 11 BJD councillors did not attend the council meeting. But this meeting was attended by the party’s elected deputy mayor Lalatendu Parida. Due to which there has been controversy. This also indicates internal differences within BJD.
