Aadhaar verification of candidates will now be done by UPSC

UPSC News: The Central Government has allowed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to use Aadhaar-based authentication to verify the identity of candidates during registration and at various stages of examinations and recruitment. This new measure, announced on August 28, will be voluntary.

Compliance with legal provisions

UPSC should comply with all provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 and related rules. The Commission should also follow the directions of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to ensure proper implementation of the authentication process.

That’s why this step was taken.

The move assumes significance as the Commission last month cancelled the provisional candidature of probationary recruitment officer Pooja Khedkar and found her trying to cheat in the civil services examination before she could be eligible for future admissions in all universities. Khedkar is also accused of disqualification and insulting the Other Backward Class or Single (non-creamy layer) quota.

Pooja Khedkar said this

Former IAS probationer Pooja Khedkar, accused of cheating and misappropriating OBC (Other Backward Class) and disability quota benefits, has told the Delhi High Court that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which conducts civil services examinations, has no authority to disqualify her. UPSC had last month cancelled Pooja Khedkar’s candidature and excluded her from future examinations. The Commission alleged that she provided incorrect information in her application for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2022 to avail reservation benefits.
