Abu Dhabi Crown Prince to arrive in India on Sunday

New Delhi: Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will begin a two-day maiden visit to India on Sunday for wide-ranging talks with the prime minister. Narendra Modi amid rising tensions in West Asia.

Al Nahyan’s visit will further strengthen the strong ties between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and open avenues for partnership in new and emerging areas, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said while announcing the trip.

Prime Minister Modi and the Crown Prince will hold talks on Sunday covering a wide range of areas of bilateral cooperation, he said.

In addition to bilateral issues, the two leaders are also expected to discuss the overall situation arising from the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The visiting leader is also scheduled to visit the president. Droupadi Murmu He will visit Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

The Crown Prince will be accompanied by several UAE government ministers and a business delegation.

After concluding his visit to Delhi, Al Nahyan will travel to Mumbai to participate in a business forum on Monday involving top business leaders from both countries.

“At the invitation of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will pay an official visit to India on September 9 and 10,” the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The Foreign Ministry also referred to the boosting of bilateral cooperation in a variety of areas in recent years.

“India and the UAE share historically close and friendly ties. Over the past few years, the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has deepened across a wide range of areas including politics, trade, investment, connectivity, energy, technology, education and culture,” he said.

Following Modi’s historic visit to the UAE in August 2015, bilateral relations between the two countries were upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Both countries signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in February 2022 and a Local Currency Settlement System (LCS) in July 2023 to promote the use of Indian currency. Rupee and AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham) for cross-border transactions.

The two countries are among each other’s top trading partners, with bilateral trade worth about $85 billion in 2022-23, according to official data.

The UAE is also among the top four investors in India in terms of foreign direct investments in 2022-23.

A strong and vibrant Indian community of approximately 3.5 million people constitutes the largest expatriate group in the UAE.

The United Arab Emirates was invited as a special guest to the G20 during India’s presidency of the group.

In February 2023, the India-UAE-France (UFI) trilateral alliance was formally launched.

With the active support of India, the UAE joined the SCO as a dialogue partner in May 2023. The UAE also joined the BRICS as a member on January 1 with the support of India.

Defence cooperation between India and the UAE has also seen a renewed boost in recent years.

In January 2024, the first bilateral military exercise between India and the UAE, “Desert Cyclone”, was held in the country. Rajasthan .
