Ahmedabad: The son of a panipuri seller from the city of Meghraj in gujarat has secured a seat in MBBS in the general category despite facing significant challenges. Interestingly, Alpesh Rathod had already secured a seat in the SEBC category two years ago, but his admission was revoked when his SEBC quota certificate was found invalid.
Alpesh, who approached the Supreme Court, granted him interim relief and temporarily restrained the state government from canceling his admission. However, showing resilience, Rathod chose to resume the nini exam, which enabled him to secure a general category position at GMERS Medical College.

His performance improved significantly; Although he scored 613 points two years ago, this time he scored 644 points.
“I didn’t want any uncertainty hanging over my head,” Alpesh explained as he sat down in another nini -UG attempt.
Challenges faced by Alpesh
Apart from facing challenges related to reserves, Alpesh Rathod also faced financial hurdles. For vacating his seat, the university imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on him, despite being the institution that initially delayed his admission.
Rathod, whose father runs a modest panipuri stall in Meghraj, will now have to pay higher tuition fees than he would at a public university. Also, to get back the certificates you submitted for your initial admission, you have to pay the same fine of Rs 5 lakh.
Alpesh will be the first member of his family, as well as the entire Kenthwa village in Uttar Pradesh, to become a doctor.
