Shogunstarring Hiroyuki SanadaCosmo Jarvis, and Anna Sawaihas made history at the recently concluded Creative Arts Emmys, held on September 7 and 8, with 14 wins in the technical and guest acting categories. The period drama, set in feudal Japan, is an adaptation of James ClavellNovel from 1975. Shogun broke the record of 13 wins set by the limited series John Adams Starring Paul Giamatti in 2009.

Shogun sets a record by winning 14 Emmy Awards

At the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Shogun won 14 Emmys in two nights; in its opening weekend, it was up for 16. The Japanese series won in the technical categories of Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Picture Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Period Costume Design, Best Main Title Design, Best Production Design, Best Prosthetic Makeup, Best Stunt Performance, Best Casting for a Drama, Best Special Visual Effects, Best Period/Fantasy Makeup and Best Period/Fantasy Hairstyling.

Nestor Carbonell, who plays Spanish sailor Vasco Rodrigues, also won the award for Best Guest Actor in a Drama. The actor praised the rest of the cast Shogun In their speech, the team said: “You’re all here! You’re all nominated! I love the team sport that this entails.”

About the Shogun series

Created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Mark, Shogun is the first Japanese series to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. At next week’s main ceremony, actors Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira are nominated in the acting categories.
