A conspiracy to derail a train in Aligarh A case has been uncovered and the person responsible for placing alloy wheels on the railway track has been identified. The accused, Afsan, has been arrested by the police.

Police officials found the alloy wheel on the road in Aligarh. The incident occurred in Talaspur area under the jurisdiction of Rorawar police station. On receiving information, both the Railway Police Force (GRP) and Rorawar police rushed to the spot.

The Intelligence Bureau and Uttar Pradesh Police are investigating the cause of the derailment, along with the possible involvement of anti-social elements.

A rusty piece of rail about 93 cm long was placed by an unknown person on the active track, leading to the derailment, the FIR revealed. The FIR, filed on Sunday, is based on a complaint by senior section engineer of the railway, Mahendra Pratap Singh. Singh claimed that a “piece of rail” found on the tracks was placed there deliberately. Railway Board officials had earlier hinted at the possibility of an object “placed on the track” being the reason behind the derailment.

The FIR has been filed under sections 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 150, 151 and 152 of the Railways Act, 1989. Earlier, loco pilot AP Bundelahad had said that “a rock hit the cattle guard (front end) of the locomotive, which got severely damaged and bent.”

Following the incident, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hinted at possible sabotage in a post on X. “The engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Amdavad) hit an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today. Sharp impact marks are seen. The evidence is secured. IB and UP police are also working on it. There were no injuries among passengers and staff. The train is ready for passengers to continue their journey to Amdavad,” Vaishnaw posted on X.
