Google acknowledged the flaws and said it has since worked to improve the product by adhering to its “product principles” and conducting simulated situations to identify and address potential weaknesses.
Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior Google executive, explained in a blog post that Gemini had been calibrated to promote diversity in its results. However, the model failed to adequately adjust for cues where such diversity was not relevant, leading to the inaccuracies. Raghavan also noted that the model had been “overly cautious” and had misinterpreted some cues as sensitive.
With these issues resolved, Google is now set to relaunch an improved version of its Gemini imaging tool, promising greater accuracy and adherence to historical context.
