‘I am better than Darshan’: Renukaswamy mocked Pavithra Gowda with an obscene photo

Bangalore: Victim Renukaswamy, who was allegedly abducted and brutally murdered by Kannada superstar Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda and 15 others, had sent an obscene photo and derogatory messages to Pavithra Gowda as she believed she was destroying the actor’s family life, according to the chargesheet filed in court, police sources said on Wednesday.

Investigators in the case obtained information directly from Instagram to confirm this, the sources said.

According to police sources, Renukaswamy’s mobile phone had gone missing as the accused had thrown it into a canal while dumping Renukaswamy’s body after torturing him to death in June. However, the police had obtained a duplicate SIM card and activated his social media accounts for the purpose of investigation.

Earlier, the police in coordination with civic authorities and fire and emergency services personnel had launched an extensive search operation in the Vrushabhavathi canal to find the mobile phone, but were unsuccessful.

According to sources, Renukaswamy developed hatred towards Darshan’s partner, believing that Pavithra Gowda had destroyed Darshan’s family life and had attacked her to support his wife. Renukaswamy had allegedly sent a photograph of his genitals to Pavithra Gowda and claimed that he was better than Darshan, according to sources. Renukaswamy also continued to send derogatory messages to Pavithra Gowda.

Pavithra Gowda, who could not bear the torture, informed Darshan’s close aide Pavan and asked him to handle the situation without informing the superstar, sources said. However, Pavan had shared the information with Darshan. Angered by this, Darshan had tasked Pavan to find out who this person was who was tormenting her and bring him before him. Pavan had allegedly started chatting with Renukaswamy in the guise of Pavithra Gowda and started collecting information about him and his movements.

After tracking down Renukaswamy, another accused, Raghavendra, president of the Chitradurga Darshan Fans Association, was induced to kidnap him. Renukaswamy was asked to go to Bengaluru and accuse Pavan, and Raghavendra assured him that all he had to do was apologise to Darshan for what he had done and he would be released. He was also promised selfies with Darshan.

As Renukaswamy was undecided, the accused forced him into a car and then forcibly took him to a vehicle on the outskirts of Chitradurga town. They then took him to a shed in Rajarajeshwari Nagar locality in Bengaluru.

Darshan was then informed that Renukaswamy had been brought there, that he had gone to the shed with Pavithra Gowda and had allegedly started assaulting him, along with his group, for hours. The group had brought an electric shock device and had allegedly subjected the kidnapped fan to repeated shocks on his genitals. They had also thrown him against trucks parked in the shed and kicked him like a football.

Renukaswamy was given non-vegetarian food despite his pleadings that he was a vegetarian.

Detailing the subsequent torture he was subjected to, sources said Renukaswamy was burnt on several parts of his body and even though he was bleeding profusely, the gang continued to assault him throughout the night after taking breaks.

According to sources, the accused consumed liquor and other substances while indulging in unheard-of brutalities against him. When Renukaswamy succumbed to his injuries, Darshan and his group allegedly planned to dispose of the body and force four people to surrender to the police, claiming that they had hacked Renukaswamy to death over a financial matter. However, police officials managed to crack the case and get information about the kidnapping and brutal murder of Renukaswamy.

Renukaswamy came from a middle-class family. His father, Kashinatha Shivanagoudara, was a retired government employee. He worked in a pharmacy and was the sole breadwinner of the family, and his wife was pregnant.
