Amir Mahato becomes Jharkhand’s first transgender to be appointed as community health officer

Jharkhand: In an innovative move, the Jharkhand The government has appointed Amir Mahato, a transgender person from West Singhbhum district, as the Community Health Officer. On Thursday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren handed over the appointment letter to Mahato.

Mahato shared that her mother’s dream was to become a nurse but financial constraints prevented her from achieving it. She stated, “My mother’s dream has come true. I have no complaints before God. I am very happy and I never thought that I would be appointed as a Community Health Officer in Jharkhand“I thank the Prime Minister for taking this initiative.”

Despite coming from a very poor family, Mahato persevered and studied hard to achieve her goals. She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from Sambalpur University.

In addition to JharkhandOther states such as BiharKarnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have taken similar pioneering initiatives by appointing transgender persons in government departments.

He Jharkhand The Cabinet had approved reservation of seats for transgender persons in September last year. The state government has also introduced reservations under the OBC quota in educational institutions and government appointments for persons of the third gender.
