AMMA explores new union options in Mollywood and contacts FEFKA

A group of actors from the Malayalam Cine Artists Association are seeking to break away and form a new union with the Cine Employees Federation of India. Kerala (FEFKA), a move that could potentially weaken AMMA, which is already reeling from sex scandal allegations against some of its prominent members.

According to a representative of the sector, some actors have approached the FEFKA to register a new union.

B Unnikrishnan, general secretary of FEFKA, a confederation of 21 unions in Kerala The director of the city’s film industry, Ibrahim Al-Adha, told reporters on Thursday that some of the actors have met with him and expressed interest in forming a new union.

“They want to maintain the current organisation, but they want to form another union. In Mumbai, actors are part of the federation, which is affiliated to a union. Some actors and actresses have met me and asked if there is a possibility of forming such a union,” he said.

However, Unnikrishnan said that if actors want to form a union, they should write a letter to the FEFKA general council or form a union and then approach FEFKA for membership.

“We have not made any decisions. Currently, we have 21 organisations affiliated to FEFKA. Any decision in this regard will be taken only by the general council,” he said.

Unnikrishnan clarified that AMMA members had approached him with similar proposals on several occasions.
