Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched a RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) kit for indigenous monkeypox (Mpox) here.
The kit was developed at Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone in Visakhapatnam by Transasia Diagnostics and was validated by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
“We are proud to launch India’s first indigenous monkeypox RT-PCR kit. The freeze-dried components of the kit are designed to be suitable for shipping and even for use in remote areas,” Naidu said in a post on ‘X’.
According to CM, the kit greatly improves epidemic preparedness thanks to an accurate, reliable and accessible diagnosis.
He further noted that it reflects the ‘Make in AP (Andhra Pradesh)’ tag on the global stage, including demonstrating India’s leadership in healthcare innovation.
