Entrepreneur and author Ankur Warikoo Recently, Warikoo touched many people’s hearts with an emotional story about her family’s financial struggles. On Wednesday, Warikoo shared a personal experience from her teenage years, when her family faced severe financial hardship after her father lost his job.

Warikoo posted a never-before-seen picture with her father and recalled the tough times her family went through in 1995 when they had only a “few thousand rupees in the bank”. She shared: “I was 15 years old. Dad had just lost his job. We had a few thousand rupees left in the bank. He went to withdraw Rs 10,000 from the bank. When he was returning, someone stole it from him.”

The robbery threw the family into chaos, leading to financial debts and personal problems. Warikoo recalled that her parents sometimes skipped meals because they could not afford to buy food. “Ma’s salary of Rs 1,000 as a primary school teacher helped us sustain ourselves,” she added.

Warikoo also spoke of how his father received compensation from the government for his house in Kashmir, which had been destroyed. “At the height of this crisis, we learned that the government would compensate dad for his house in Kashmir. Accepting the compensation meant that he would never, ever have the house he grew up in again. But that money would save us. And so it did,” he wrote.

In his post, Warikoo reflected on the true purpose of money, emphasizing that it should be used to buy stability, not happiness or status. “That is the purpose of money. Not to buy happiness. Not to buy growth. Not to buy things. Not to buy status. Instead, to buy stability. Respect money for the stability it provides. Instead of becoming a slave to the addiction it offers,” he concluded.

The post quickly went viral, receiving over two million views and numerous reactions. One user commented: “It’s amazing how life gives us the option to accept a problem or take action to overcome it. Your experience is truly inspiring. Your family must be so proud of you.” Another user shared: “I have no money right now and I totally understand and relate to the stability that money brings. And yes, 90% of us would become slaves to it.”

Warikoo has also been in the spotlight recently for her body transformation journey. She shared that she lost 10 kilograms to be “fat-free at 43” and credited actor Farhan Akhtar for her inspiration.
