Apple’s Harvest: iPhone 16 Sales Up 15-20% Over iPhone 15 On Launch Day | Company News

The much-anticipated launch of Apple’s iPhone 16 series created a stir in India on Friday, with long queues at flagship stores and express delivery platforms offering delivery for the first time.

According to Counterpoint Research, which conducted the initial sample survey among retailers, the iPhone 16 series has seen a 15 to 20 percent increase in sales on the opening day compared to its iPhone 15 counterpart.

Neil Shah, founder of Counterpoint Research in India, said that based on initial feedback, the base model of the iPhone 16 was the best-selling model on the first day, followed by the Pro Max.

Shah notes that the agency conducted a benchmarking study on day one to gauge consumer sentiment and traction.

A more comprehensive study involving a larger sample of over 200 retailers will be conducted during the second half of September.

Big Basket, which promised fast delivery of iPhone 16 within 10 minutes, has delivered 138 phones in the first hour.

The quick-service platform has been selling three to four phones per minute, according to Hari Menon, co-founder of Big Basket.

Blinkit, which has partnered with reseller Unicorn, has made more than 300 deliveries across four cities, including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune, IN A MATTER OF MINUTES since 8 am when sales began, Unicorn founder Albinder Dhindsa said.

In fiscal 2024, sales in India, driven primarily by iPhones, reached Rs 67,000 crore, representing a year-over-year growth of 35 percent. In fiscal 2019, domestic sales were just Rs 11,000 crore, representing a sevenfold increase. For the first time, Apple is assembling its high-end models, including the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, in India, simultaneously with production in China.
