Around 150 government teachers have disappeared from schools in Gujarat

Gujarat:The group led by Bhupendra Patel Gujarat The government has launched an investigation into the unannounced absence of around 150 teachers from schools across the state. The problem was brought to the attention of several schools over the past week, revealing that many teachers have been absent from duty, with some allegedly living abroad or on unauthorised leave for extended periods.

On Tuesday evening, the state government announced that 134 teachers had been issued notices of dismissal and steps had been taken to terminate them. The government highlighted its Command and Control Centre (CCC) for schools, which played a key role in identifying these absent teachers.

Praful Pansheriya, Minister of State for Primary, Secondary and Adult Education, said that on Monday 32 teachers were found to be residing abroad and 32 others were on unauthorised leave. He clarified that none of these teachers were receiving salaries, contradicting reports suggesting otherwise.

Pansheriya said information collected from 17 districts indicated that 32 teachers were abroad and 31 were on unauthorized leave. The department is continuing its investigation in other districts and will take legal action as necessary.

The situation came to light earlier this week when it was discovered that a teacher from Banaskantha district had been living in the US for several years and had been receiving salary till January this year. Similar cases have surfaced in other districts. Despite repeated attempts, officials from the state education department, including principal secretary Mukesh Kumar, were not available for comment.
