Assam government partners with Prasar Bharati for a series on Bir Lachit Borphukan

The series will consist of 52 episodes in Hindi and Assamese. | X/PB-SHABD

Guwahati: He Government of AssamIndia’s Department of Cultural Affairs has announced a documentary series on the life of Bir Lachit Borphukan in collaboration with Prasar Bharat. An MoU was signed in Guwahati on Monday between the Assam Government and Prasar Bharat, in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma and Doordarshan Director General Kanchan Prasad.

The series will consist of 52 episodes in Hindi and Assamese, which will later be dubbed into other languages ​​and aired on DD National, DD Assam and a proposed OTT platform.

During the event, Sarma highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting that it was the first time that the state government had partnered with Prasar Bharati to produce a documentary on Lachit Borphukan. He urged the Prasar Bharati team to “be sensitive while portraying the life of Lachit Borphukan.”

Lachit Borphukan, a revered general of the Royal Army of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam, is celebrated for defeating the Mughals and stopping their expansion under Aurangzeb in the region.

The event was also attended by Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Bimal Bora, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Principal Secretary B. Kalyan Chakravarthy and Deputy Director of DD Kendra (Guwahati) Ankur Lahoty.
