He Australian cricket team On Wednesday (September 4) at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh, Scotland, history was made in the first T20I with a batting display that will go down in history. The team led by Mitchell Marsh set a new world record with Travis Head proving to be the chief torturer.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Australia restricted Scotland to a total of just 154 runs with no home team batsman scoring more than 27. Meanwhile, for the visitors, Sean Abbott took three wickets while Adam Zampa and Xavier Bartlett took two scalps each.
In response, the Australian batting unit wreaked havoc on the Scottish bowling unit despite a mistake from debutant Jack Fraser Mcgurk. The leader and captain Mitchell Swamp Australia put together a stunning 113-run partnership in just 36 balls. Australia scored 113 runs in the powerplay and chased down the total with 62 balls to spare as they recorded a seven-wicket win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Australia creates a massive world record
Head and Marsh’s incredible onslaught saw the 2021 world champions set a new world record for most runs scored by a full member nation in a T20I in a powerplay. Australia scored 113 runs in the first six overs of their innings, surpassing South Africa’s record of 103 runs in the powerplay.

Meanwhile, Head set the record for the fastest fifty by an Australian in T20I after reaching the milestone in 17 balls. He ended his career after making 80 runs in just 25 balls. Marsh made 19 in 12 balls. Josh Inglis played a quickfire cameo of 27 runs in 13 balls to seal Australia’s victory.
The two teams will meet in the second and third games of the series on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the same venue.
