How will children be captured in the database?

According to the UIDAI website, “Biometric data of children below the age of 5 years will not be collected. Their UID will be processed based on demographic information and facial photograph linked with their parents’ UID. Such children will be required to update their biometric data of ten fingers, iris and facial photograph when they turn 5 and 15 years of age. A notification in this regard will be mentioned in the original Aadhaar letter.”

Here’s how to update a child’s Aadhaar card online:

Step 1: Go to the UIDAI website

Step 2: Click on the Aadhaar Card Registration option

Step 3: Complete the following information:

  • Name of the child
  • Parents’ mobile number
  • Parent email id
  • Home address, area and state

Step 4: Click on Set Appointment

Step 5: Choose the nearest enrollment center and schedule an appointment

Step 6: Bring the following documents to your appointment:

  • Reference number
  • Printing the form
  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of address
  • Relationship test
  • Birthdate

If the child is five years old or older, biometric details Biometric data such as ten fingers, facial photograph and iris scan will also be taken.
