Bangla Bandh: BJP Workers Block Howrah Police Station, Clash Erupts Between Protesters-Police

The Bharatiya Janata Party (Indian People’s Party (BJP)) on Wednesday called for a Bengal strike, a 12-hour strike today from 6 am to 6 pm in response to the police action against protesters during Nabanna Abhijan. The protesters called on the Chief Minister Mama Banerjee‘s resignation over the rape and murder case of a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor in Kolkata RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Notably, the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has declared that offices will remain open and employees have been asked to report to work unless there is any emergency. The West Bengal government issued a notification stating that all government offices would remain open and all employees, except those facing emergencies or on leave, would have to report to work on August 28 or face a show-cause for their unauthorised absence.
