Bangladesh infiltration in Jharkhand is at an alarming level and must be stopped: High Court

The Chief Correspondent of the Ranchi Jharkhand High Court heard a PIL filed regarding the change in population due to entry of illegal immigrants (Bangladeshi infiltrators) in areas like Sahibganj, Pakur, Dumka, Godda and Jamtara etc. of the state. During the hearing before the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai, Attorney General of India (SGI) Tushar Mehta, who participated virtually, orally said that there is an alarming situation of entry of Bangladeshi infiltrators in Jharkhand. This is a very sensitive matter. The infiltrators will also enter other states of the country through Jharkhand and affect the population there. This has to be stopped at all costs. Accepting the application of Mr. Mehta, SGI, the division bench fixed September 12 for the next hearing of the case. Earlier, on behalf of the Central Government, SGI (Senior Advocate) Tushar Mehta, while presenting his version through video conferencing, orally told the court that the reduction of tribal population in Santal Pargana region due to Bangladeshi infiltrators is a serious matter. The Central Government is serious in this matter. The Central Government will submit a comprehensive reply on this sensitive issue after consulting all its stakeholders like BSF, IB etc. He urged the division bench to remove IB from the accused in this case, because IB has many confidential things which cannot be made public. Some data received from IB can be filed in the comprehensive reply of the Central Government. In this regard, the division bench directed the Central Government to file an application in this regard. Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan appeared on behalf of the state government. He had earlier said that the Deputy Commissioner of six districts had already filed a reply. Senior Advocate Anil Kumar appeared on behalf of the Central Government and Advocate Rajeev Kumar presented the stand on behalf of the petitioner. Advocate Rajendra Krishna appeared on behalf of the intervenor. It may be noted that the petitioner Soma Oraon raised the issue of religious conversion of tribals by filing a PIL. Daniel Danish has filed a PIL demanding to stop the entry of Bangladeshi infiltrators. The petition says that there is large scale Bangladeshi infiltration in the districts of Sahibganj, Pakur, Dumka, Godda, Jamtara etc. of Santalpargana region. Bangladeshis are illegally entering these areas and migrating to other districts of the state. Due to infiltration, the demographics of that area are changing. The intervenor has filed a petition stating that the problem of demographic change in Santal Pargana region has become very serious. The number of tribals in that area was 42 per cent, which has come down to 28 per cent. The union is working to prevent entry of infiltrators and prepare documents like voter ID, Aadhar card, genealogy etc. for them.
