Banijay Asia partners with SERA for reality show sending Indian citizen into space with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin

Banijay Asia has partnered with the Space Indian Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) will produce a groundbreaking reality show that will send an Indian citizen into space in the future Blue origin New Shepard Mission. This collaboration is part of the broader SERA human spaceflight programme, for which India has been designated as a partner country.

Deepak Dhar, Founder and Group CEO of Banijay Asia and Endemol Shine India, expressed his excitement to document the transformative journey of an ordinary Indian space traveller. The reality show aims to democratise space travel by showcasing the rigorous selection process, which includes several challenges that test the participants’ physical and mental readiness for space flight. The series will capture the emotional highs and lows of the participants as they compete for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to space.

The show will conclude with the selection of one final winner, who will get a chance to travel to space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket. Mrinalini Jain, Group Development Director, Banijay Asia and Endemol Shine India, highlighted that the show will combine the thrill of reality TV with the awe of space exploration, making it an innovative format that will inspire viewers around the world.

Joshua Skurla, co-founder of SERA, highlighted the importance of the partnership in bringing space and science-related content to a wide audience. He believes the show will not only inspire millions of people, but will also foster a global conversation about the future of space exploration.

SERA’s spaceflight programme plans to offer six seats to citizens from around the world on a future New Shepard mission, which will take selected astronauts on an 11-minute journey beyond the Karman line, the internationally recognised boundary of space 100 km above the Earth.
