Bengal floods: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday reiterated her government’s commitment to send relief materials to people in flood-affected areas of the state during the festive season. Inaugurating a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata’s Behala area, Banerjee said the suffering of flood-affected people should not be ignored during the festival season.
The Chief Minister said relief material has been sent to people in flood-affected areas of South and North Bengal, including rice, pulses, potatoes, soya beans, mustard oil and other essential food items. He said that as per the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in the next two days and sporadic rain and sunny weather are expected for the next four days after the festival starting from Shashthi.
