Bhumi Pednekar shares Ukadiche Modak recipe: Watch her make it from scratch

Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 is coming to an end, but we are not tired of enjoying modaks yet. It seems like Bhumi Pednekar also loves this sweet treat as she shared a video showing how she made it from scratch at home. In her Instagram reel, she is seen preparing the traditional Ukadiche Modak. It is a steamed delicacy with a rice flour topping and a coconut filling that many love. Bhumi has also given a step-by-step recipe for this delicacy, admitting that it took a lot of work. In an Instagram update a few days ago, she revealed that this is her grandmother’s modak recipe.

She starts by preparing the dough/topping for the Ukadiche modak. She simmers milk and water with ghee and a little salt. She then adds 1 cup of rice flour to this mixture and stirs it to “make a soft, shaggy dough.” She instructs that it should be kneaded well and left to rest for 10 minutes. In the video, Bhumi sometimes seems unsure about some steps in the recipe. She is seen asking her mother and another person for help off-camera, and they also join in on the fun. Bhumi also reveals that her mother is watching and giving her instructions via the security camera.

For the filling, she combines grated coconut, ghee, poppy seeds, jaggery and cardamom. Later, she forms the modak by carefully stuffing the dough pieces with the coconut filling using oiled palms. The modaks are steamed in haldi leaves and topped with kesar and ghee. In the caption, she wrote, “I am not a cook but today I took up the challenge and decided to make some Ukadiche Modak. I can eat Modak for breakfast, lunch and dinner.” Wondering how her sweet creation turned out? Watch the full video below to see her reaction.
