Jehanabad: A major accident occurred on the fourth Monday of Sawan in Jehanabad, Bihar. Seven people were killed in a stampede at Baba Siddheshwar Nath temple in Makhdumpur. The administration has confirmed the death of seven people. Many people have also been injured. This incident occurred this morning when a huge crowd of devotees gathered at Baba Siddheshwar Nath temple on the occasion of the fourth Monday of Sawan. The crowd was so huge that pushing and shoving started. Soon a stampede broke out and people started falling over each other. Seven people were killed in the accident and many people were injured. The injured have been admitted to Jehanabad Sadar Hospital. The administration has expressed fear that the death toll may rise.

The incident occurred late on the night of Sunday-Monday. It is said that a large number of devotees come to the temple to offer water in the month of Sawan, especially on Mondays. According to eyewitnesses, people started falling down after the stampede and many died due to suffocation. One witness accused the administration of lathicharge, which led to the stampede. The witness said that NCC personnel were deployed at the spot, but the Bihar police were not present. Another said that there was an argument between the police and the people on the hill, following which the police resorted to lathicharge. Due to this, people got scared and started running backwards, due to which a stampede broke out and people started falling down.
