BJP draws parallels with ‘BBC documentary’, accuses opposition of creating ‘chaos’ over Hindenburg report | India News

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sudhanshu Trivedi on Sunday slammed the opposition for its attacks on the Narendra Modi government in response to the new Hindenburg report. The minutes of the report were made public and the opposition reaction has started pouring in. The Congress lashed out at the Modi-led central government and called for a joint parliamentary committee inquiry into the allegations against Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.

The BJP Rajya Sabha MP cited the controversial BBC documentary and raised suspicions about the timing of its release.

US-based investigative group Hindenburg Research said Buch and her husband were involved in little-known offshore funds that were allegedly part of the alleged Adani money-laundering scandal.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Trivedi accused the opposition of trying to create “economic chaos in India” by spreading confusion. Trivedi said, “The BBC documentary was released just before the Parliament session. The Hindenburg report was released in January, just before the Parliament session. All these sequences take place during the Parliament session.”

He said: “Why has Congress always supported foreign companies for the last 30 or 40 years? In recent years, every time the Parliament session begins, a foreign report is published.”

SEBI defended its chairman on Sunday, saying Buch always made necessary disclosures and stayed away from matters that could have led to conflicts of interest.
