BJP workers clash with police while enforcing ‘Bengal Bandh’, many arrested

Bengal Bandh: In a bid to call for a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal, incidents of BJP workers clashing with police at many places are continuously coming to light on Wednesday. Several BJP leaders, including former Rajya Sabha member Roopa Ganguly and MP Agnimitra Paul, have been arrested for blocking roads and railway tracks since morning.

The police behave badly with people.

In the 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ called by the BJP, said Roopa Ganguly of the party, TMC people are saying that people are not following the bandh as buses are empty. This means people are observing the bandh. Did you see me forcing anyone to follow the bandh? The police are behaving very badly these days, aren’t they ashamed?

Police arrested many BJP leaders

Several BJP leaders have been arrested in the state for trying to enforce the bandh. Ganguly and Paul were arrested from Gariahat area in south Kolkata when they were urging shopkeepers to shut shops and people to support Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor Sajal Ghosh. he was arrested from his residence in Sealdah soon after a scuffle broke out between BJP and Trinamool supporters while they were trying to enforce the bandh at nearby Kole Bazaar. BJP state president and Union minister Sukant Majumdar led a procession in Baguhati and during the process he got into an argument with the police who were trying to stop him.

BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said the issue for which we have come out on the streets is that the public is behind us. We are with the people. There is no law and order in West Bengal. It has been proved that Mamata Banerjee will not give justice to the woman and is trying to save the culprit.

In Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district, the BJP alleged that two of its workers were shot at. However, the police claimed that some people beat up the two men outside the Anglo India Jute Mill. He said the injured were shifted to the Bhatpara Government Hospital for treatment. Former BJP MP Arjun Singh and Trinamool MLA from Jagaddal Somnath Shyam reached the spot with their supporters after the incident, which led to tension. The police intervened and brought the situation under control. Arjun Singh said the miscreants supporting the Trinamool Congress opened fire, if the police were not there, we would have shown people power to Trinamool.
