Protesters threw stones at police in Hastings
In Hastings, the agitators attacked the police and pelted stones. The police dispersed them by hurling tear gas shells. Former Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh and BJP leader Kaustav Bagchi were also seen campaigning at Nabanna in Hastings. Under the leadership of BJP state president and Union minister Sukant Majumdar, hundreds of BJP supporters surrounded Lalbazar on Tuesday evening. During this time the agitators tried to break the police barricade. The police hurled tear gas shells. Sukant Majumdar fell ill due to this.
Police said the movement was not peaceful.
On Tuesday evening, ADG (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar said that they were earlier told that the movement would be peaceful. But unrest was seen all around. This kind of movement cannot belong to the real student community of Bengal. He said that some criminal elements were also involved in the movement. ADG (Law and Order) Manoj Verma and DC (Central) Indira Mukherjee were also present at the press conference. Kolkata police have arrested 126 people. These include 23 women. The state police arrested 94 people.
4 people were arrested at Howrah station
The government said four people were arrested from Howrah station. They had complete information about the conspiracy that was hatched in the name of the campaign. It said bricks, stones and rocks were thrown at the police. Government property was damaged. Vehicles were set on fire. It said the police did not succumb to any provocation and showed restraint and patience. The policemen were bleeding.
Kolkata DC Police said: Miscreants hurled bricks

Regarding the BJP bandh, Supratim Sarkar said that this bandh is illegal. The police will take all kinds of measures. Adequate measures will be taken to ensure that people do not face any inconvenience. IG (CID) DP Singh was injured due to stone pelting by protesters at Howrah Maidan. It is reported that a stone fell directly on his hand.
Shops remained closed, Mangalahat came to a standstill
The Nabanna siege has also had a significant impact on businesses. Due to the protest, all the shops and showrooms in the Howrah Maidan area remained closed. The effect of the demonstration was also seen in Manglahat. On the market day, the number of street vendors setting up shop on the roadside was negligible. Customers also remained absent. There has been a loss of around Rs 250 crore due to the business stoppage in Mangalahat. There was a lot of resentment among businessmen over this.
Howrah Central and South Traffic System remains stable
The Nabanna siege had the biggest impact on the traffic system. Daily commuters faced a lot of problems due to the complete closure of traffic services on Central Howrah, South Howrah and Kona Expressway. However, people got relief with the start of the underwater metro service. Due to the closure of the traffic system on the Kona Expressway, the movement of buses coming from rural Howrah to Kolkata came to a complete stop.

Sandeep Ganguly, in-charge of Chanditala police station posted at Howrah Maidan, was injured due to stone pelting. He was taken to hospital.
