BlinkIt CEO Albinder Dhindsa attributed the record sales to last-minute Rakhi buying.
KEY POINTS
- Rakhi orders per minute reached 693 units on BlinkIt on Sunday evening, said CEO Albinder Dhindsa.
- He attributed the windfall to orders placed by last-minute shoppers on the Zomato-owned delivery app.
- As for sweets, Laddu, the most ordered product last year, was overtaken by Kaju Katli.
And at its peak, we reached 693 RPM (rakhis per minute).”
For context, during the corresponding period in 2023, less than 100 Rakhi orders were placed per minute.
Dhindsa described the phenomenon as a “last-minute Rakhi purchase” and confirmed that the record was broken on Sunday evening.
However, these figures could be misleading as Dhindsa clearly said that the statistic of 693 Rakhis per minute represented the peak of the trend.
The CEO thanked customers, especially those who placed their first BlinkIt order, for trusting the service and making it possible.
She also shed light on BlinKit mithai sales, sharing a chart of three of the most ordered Indian sweets.
“The competition between Laddu and Gulab Jamun is very tight, but the real surprise today was the sales of Kaju Katli,” he said.
Dhindsa added that Laddus beat the other two sweets on that front last year.
