BREAKING: Indian Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal dies of heart attack in Chennai

New Delhi: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Director General Rakesh Pal died on Sunday after suffering a severe heart attack. According to sources, Rakesh Pal developed chest pain on INS Adyar when he was discussing with officials about preparations for the post of Defence Minister. Rajnath SinghPal’s visit to Chennai. The accompanying officials rushed Pal to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai at around 2.30 pm, where he passed away at around 7 pm without responding to treatment.

Meanwhile, after welcoming the demise of ICG Director General Rakesh Pal, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh They immediately reached Rajiv Gandhi Hospital and paid their last respects to the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard.

Rajnath Singh Later, he addressed X to express his grief and said, “I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Shri Rakesh Pal, Director General, Indian Coast Guard in Chennai today. He was an able and committed officer under whose leadership the ICG was making great strides in strengthening India’s maritime security. My deepest condolences to his bereaved family.”

DG Rakesh Pal was appointed as the 25th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard in July last year. An alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, Rakesh Pal joined the Indian Coast Guard in January 1989. In his career spanning over 35 years, the Flag Officer has held several key positions including Commander, Coast Guard Region (North West), Gandhinagar, Additional Director General (Policy and Plans) and Additional Director General of the Coast Guard at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi.

Pal had vast experience at sea and commanded all classes of ICG vessels including ICGS Samarth, ICGS Vijit, ICGS Sucheta Kriplani, ICGS Ahalyabai and ICGS C-03. The officer also commanded two forward area Coast Guard bases in Gujarat – Okha and Vadinar. Director General Rakesh Pal was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal in 2013 and the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2018 for his illustrious service.
