India celebrates first National Space Day

On August 23, India celebrates its first National Space Day. This day marks an important milestone in India’s journey in space exploration as the nation commemorates the successful soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s Vikram lander on the lunar surface, exactly a year ago. This achievement not only made India the fourth nation in the world to land a rover on the Moon, but also made it the first to reach the Moon’s south polar region, putting the country at the forefront of space exploration.

The theme for the inaugural National Space Day is “Touching Lives While Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga”, which highlights the broader impact of space exploration on society. This theme highlights how advancements in space technology can improve the quality of life on Earth, from satellite communication to disaster management and beyond.
